![]() Indiana Data Center Remote Backup operates by defining Backup Sets, which are sets of files and a schedule for backing up those files. You can add new Backup Sets, Delete, Copy, and Save them. Backup Sets are automatically executed according to their schedules. ![]() After you install the Indiana Data
Center Remote Backup software, you will simply leave your computer on
at night. Indiana Data Center Remote Backup “hides” in the
background without interfering with any other program. You will notice
the Indiana Data Center Remote Backup icon on the System Tray.
At a predetermined time, Indiana Data Center Remote Backup “wakes up” and determines which files need backed up, and what kind of backup is scheduled for that night. It then compresses those files into archives that are often far smaller than the original files. These archives are then encrypted using an encryption key known only to you so no one, not even Indiana Data Center, can read your files. After your files are compressed and encrypted, Indiana Data Center Remote Backup uses your Internet connection and sends your files off site to Indiana Data Center's storage facility. Indiana Data Center Remote Backup then verifies your files were successfully backed up and goes back to sleep. Your valuable computer files are now safe off-site. If your building burns, or your computer crashes, your critical information can be saved by replacing your equipment and restoring your files from the Indiana Data Center Remote Backup Servers. ![]() The
Remote Backup software
compresses your files before transferring them to your allotted storage
space on the servers at Indiana Data Center. Your required
storage space will be considerably less than the total size of the data
on your computer/server(s) that you choose to backup. A
typical data file set compresses to about 15% of its native size.
Some files
compress more, and some do not compress at all. The 15% is an
average and may not be true in all cases. Multimedia content,
digital pictures, zip archives and other previously compressed file
formats will compress very little or not at all.

your selected files, Indiana Data Center Remote Backup uses an
exclusive process called BitBackup to substantially reduce the amount
of time it takes to back up files - up to 99.7%. BitBackup backs
up only the parts of files that have changed since the previous backup.
For example, if you change a single 5-character word in a 2-megabyte
word processing document, BitBackup will back up only the 5-character
word. BitBackup is particularly useful in backing up huge files like
databases that may change only slightly every day.
